Baba Yaga

BABA YAGA challenges the global perceptions of the Slavic folklore figure Baba Yaga, a character whose story has been retold, reshaped, and very often misunderstood. Baba Yaga occupies a liminal space - neither good nor evil - embodying both fear and wisdom. Her story is told through the lens of the four elements - primal forces that hold the power to both create and destroy.
This series was created through staged self-portraiture and performance, set within the attic of the artist’s home. Using organic materials such as charcoal paint on the body, projected imagery, and elemental symbolism, the work reclaims Baba Yaga as a catalyst and figure of transformation.
